Motorola Droid 2 Review - Introduction and Design

The Droid 2 is the newest addition to the Droid family. It stands out from its brethren as the first Droid to include a slider, QWERTY keypad. It also has a 3.7-inch touch screen, a 1-gigahertz processor, and Swype, which is a system that allows users to "swipe" their index finger across the keypad for faster typing.

The phone also has pre-loaded applications like NFL Mobile, Need for Speed Shift, Skype Mobile, Blockbuster On Demand, a Kindle feature and a handful of integrated Google services.

The Droid 2 has a little bit of the Droid X in its storage capacity, which can grow to a massive 40-gigabytes, and its ability to act as a 3G mobile hotspot for up to five other devices. It has a bit of the first Droid in it, too, in that it still has a 5.0-megapixel camera, something a few newer Droids have moved past.

The device has room for a lot of features and already comes with some nifty tricks up its sleeve. But consumers will have to decide if those features are worth taking on the phone's bulky design or worth shunning the better camera on the Droid X and Droid Incredible.

Design

Those afraid of typing important texts or emails one finger poke at a time on a touch screen will be relieved to see the Droid 2 is a slider model with a full keyboard. Because the QWERTY keyboard slides out of the left side of the phone, there's more room for keys than is available on keypad/touch screen combination phones like the Palm Pre and new BlackBerry Torch.

The keys aren't raised much, though, and the top row of keys is close to the side of the phone, which means thumbs bump against the side of the phone often when using the top row of keys.

The Droid 2 also has touch screen options, including a virtual keypad, and the same Swype predictive-text technology available on the Droid X. Users can also tap the screen to make selections, zoom in or out, and flip between seven screen panels. A thin bar of menu, home, back and search keys is located below the 3.7-inch screen, which is trimmed with black and framed in silver.

The back of the phone has the flash and lens for the 5.0-megapixel camera, and a 3.5 mm headset jack and power button are located atop the phone. The left side has a micro-USB port and the right side has volume keys and a camera key.

The Droid 2 is just as bulky as the Droid X without the advantage of the Droid X's 4.3-inch screen. It's also thicker and heavier than the Droid X, as well as the iPhone 4, which is to be expected because of the keypad.

It's a big phone -- there's no way around it. It's going to take up a lot of room in your pocket. There are lighter and thinner phone with bigger screens. But if the physical keypad is important to a person that really wants the power of a Droid, the weight may be worth it.

Out of the box, the Motorola Droid 2 comes with a battery, a pre-installed 8-gigabyte microSD memory card, a wall/USB charger, quick reference guide, and product safety and warrant brochure.

Apple iPhone 4 Review - Introduction and Design

For all the buzz that surrounded the iPhone 4, Apple's chief executive Steve Jobs offered few surprises when he unveiled the device after details had leaked out last March.

On the plus side, it boasts a thinner design, a "retina display" that's so sharp that the human eye can't distinguish its individual pixels, and two cameras -- a VGA one on the front for video chatting, called "FaceTime," and a 5.0-megapixel one on the back for photos.

Also, Apple has updated its iPhone 4.0 operating system, dubbed iOS4, with hundreds of minor upgrades, but most notably the ability to now multitask. Something Google phones have been able to do for quite some time.

But there are minuses, First, FaceTime, unfortunately, is limited to only Wi-Fi connections and to other iPhone 4s. It also falls behind the Evo, which has better 8.0-megapixel camera and fourth-generation, or 4G, connectivity. Also, the exclusive U.S. carrier for the iPhone, AT&T, decided to discontinued its unlimited data plan, so new customers will have to pay by the gigabyte.

But when Jobs wrapped up his presentation, the biggest disappointment to many customers was that the event had come and gone with no mention of Verizon. Analysts has speculated that Apple may lose its grip on the iPhone by the end of the year, with new products slated for rivals such as T-Mobile and Verizon coming as early as the beginning of 2011.

When the original iPhone was unveiled in 2007, Apple reinvented the smartphone, combining three products -- a phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls and the Internet communication of a desktop device -- making competitors scramble to recover. But as many rivals catch up, the iPhone's dominance has began to wane.

Still, the iPhone 4 is impressive. It's worth a look for consumers who need a fast smartphone with robust features and cutting-edge design. The HTC's Evo 4G and Droid Incredible may offer more in terms of hardware and power but they still pale in comparison to Apple's distinctive styling and robust software.

Design

The iPhone 4 is sandwiched between two glass panels -- the same material the company says is used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains. Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stronger and 30 times harder than plastic, the composite is scratch-resistant, durable and a fingerprint-magnet. When it's kept clean, though, the glossy and sleek exterior gives a refined feel that Apple has come to be known for.

We dropped the iPhone 4 several times from a few feet onto a hard surface. There were no problems. And it survived without a single scratch.

Jobs likes thin. And taking a page from the MacBook Air, the new iPhone 4 is the world's thinnest smartphone, measuring a remarkable 9.3 millimeters thin -- that's over 25 percent thinner than its predecessor, the iPhone 3GS, and HTC's Droid Incredible and Evo 4G devices. Although they all weigh about the same, except the brick-like Evo, which is nearly 30 percent heavier, the iPhone 4 feels denser and sturdier -- more like a a quality product than a disposable device.

At first glance, the stainless steel band around the rim seems uncharacteristically Apple, but it's actually there for a reason. It not only offers a ridged structure to withstand the everyday bumps and drops, but also functions as a "multi-band" antenna for stronger Wi-Fi connections and improved cellular reception. The dramatic change represents a radical shift from its predecessors, which hid the antenna under the shell, but also puts out nearly 50 percent more radio-frequency radiation than the 3GS.

The iPhone 4, like the 3GS, has a large 3.5-inch touch screen display, much smaller than the Evo's 4.3-inch behemoth. But the iPhone 4 blows everyone away with outstanding picture quality. Its 640 by 960 resolution "retina display" is over four times sharper than the 3GS.

It has dual cameras -- a high-resolution 5.0-megapixel one with LED flash on the back for photos, and a second 0.3-megapixel front-facing one for "FaceTime" video-chatting. A backside illumination sensor helps capture beautiful photos in low-light environments.

Around the rim, dual speaker microphones -- one on the top and another on the bottom -- suppress unwanted background noise for improved phone calling. There's also a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack. The side buttons are nice and tactile. And the center button feels snappier. Everything, on the whole, seems better put together.

The original iPhone had an aluminum back plate and felt like a quality product. The 3G and 3GS, subsequently, used plastic, which gave them a cheaper feel. Now the iPhone 4's shiny and beautiful materials brings back a standard that matches its hefty price.

It's shockingly thin and feels great in the hand. You really don't quite notice it until you hold it. It's another sexy design we've all come to expect from Apple and, hands down, the best looking phone of the bunch. But just be aware that you'll be constantly wiping it.

Out of the box, the Apple iPhone 4 comes with a standard battery, a USB power adapter, a dock connector to USB cable, earphones with remote and microphone, and customary documentation.

RIM BlackBerry Bold (9780) Phone (T-Mobile)

5130c RM 495, is Nokia BB5 of SL3 category... therefore, many people say that this type is not supported for unlock and simlock repair as well as contact service reparation.
Is it true........???
Hmm.....before elaborating the facts, there is an important question: what is SL3 or Security Level 3?
We better understand from the beginning......SL1, SL2, SL3..........
There is a lot of informations in many forums but each explains differently. However, based on my concern and belief, those are classified as the followings:
SL1(Security Level 1) = Nokia BB5 first generation which doesn’t have PM 120 area
SL2(Security Level 2) = Nokia BB5 with PM120 area and the area contains simlock data connected to PM308 value
SL3(Security Level 3) = Nokia BB5 with PM 120 area and PM308 area is protected
I’m very welcoming for any correction.........
Based on the above classification, the next question is “what can be and cannot be done on that each type???

SL1
Flashing = can be done
Write PM 1 and PM 309 = can be done (using SX4, reset NPC, BYPass CRT)
Write PM seluruh area = can be done
Write RPL = can be done
Unlock = can be done

SL2
Flashing = can be done
Write PM 1 dan PM309 = can be done (using SX4, reset NPC, Bypass CRT)
Write PM seluruh area = can be done

First, we better understand on how contact service case emerge....

Contact Service
“This faults means that the phone Software is able to run and thus watchdog of CPU can be served.
Selftest Functions run when power is switch on and software is executed from combo memory. If any selftest fail, a “Contact Service” text is shown on LCD.”

The point is, when handphone switched on, then cpu will perform several test (selftest). If one of selftest fail, then “contact service” will show on LCD.

Generally, failure is caused by selftest failure on security test and simlock test........


Security Test is related to PM 1 and PM 309 value, if one of or both value within the area is not valid, then selftest result on security test will be failed. Then comes “contact service”.
Solution : re-write area PM 1 dan PM 309 using valid valuei


Simlock test is related to PM 120 and PM 308 value, when one of or both value within the area is not valid, then selftest result on simlock test will be failed. Then comes “contact service”.


Solution :
1. If the problem is on PM 120 value, you can try to re-write that area using valid backup (if you have). But if you don’t have, just make your own PM 120 section 0 using some existing tools free, then ty to re-write the area...
2. If the problem is on PM 308, seems that no tool is able to fix it recently because PM 308 is protected, can’t be re-written (some says it could be by using some tricks).


What I believe is, PM 308 area has little possibility to corrupt because the area is protected, so if you have contact service problem caused by simlock test failed, it maybe mostly because of corrupted PM 120, not PM 308.

Additional for UNLOCK......
“5130c is Nokia SL3, not support unlock, wait for update...” this is true, but this sentence often put on a wrong place so i think rather misleading.
The above log is not because handphone locked, but because one of simlock data (PM 120 area) corrupt. So, just fix it, no need unlock.
Unlock Provider is a process of opening provider key installed to nokia handphone that is locked on certain provider. Because one of simlock data is located on PM 308 area, so unlock cannot be executed for this moment, PM 308 is protected from re-write operation process through flash mode.
